I think it has to be looked at on a case by case basis.. I spent some time working part time in my 9ja church with a group whose main aim was to try to get them off the streets - some are hard pressed to go into it, some have other options - but consider the financial incentives of this alternative business venture as far outweighing other options, while some just love the sex act and consider the money an added bonus... Overall though, I think most would consider alternative employment if given the choice...

True talk Bagucci.

There is a demand for their 'goods' and thus the incentive to go into prostitution.

Many go into it as revenge for a childhood sexual abuse expereience. Some are just plain too lazy to get education or a better job. Some are helpless so its a case by case basis.

I don't agree with prostitution but Churches can help out more instead of discriminate and the government can create employment and schools rather than arrest them eveytime.
But most of their customers (in government) enjoy the services and would rather they remain prostitutes not bankers, lawyers, teachers or market women.

Danny said all i had in mind....... it all depends.... i once heard of a babe prostituting to pay for law school cuz she had no choice... cant judge her but i think most people just resign to fate and not explore other options... all in all, we should all do what we can to make them realise that theres more to life

I view it on a case by case bases. Some girls really have no choice. If they try to get a job to relieve their situation, the men knowing how desperate they are will demand to sleep with them, knowing they probably won't get the job they want, they will just go prostituting rather than give it away for free. They make money doing what others will just take for free by raping them or forcing them in their desperation.

I also agree with Danny.

hunny, I think everyone has a choice no matter the circumstance they find themselves in. They can choose to go with the flow, get on the band wagon, or go against the tide. It's up to them. And there's always an easy way out like this prosti business. It requires no real skill or talent, just a Vulva (for women) or a d!ck...if it's a male prosti.

well, i don't think anyone actually hearts being a prostitute, but if they say they are okay with it,thier choice, also i think there are countries where this is legal, but viewing it from the religious/moral point of view,it is wrong.
i think some also do this due to financial crisis.i also agree with anyaposh that everyone has a choice.

Lol naija idol, Flabby is the extremely happy girl, as for prostitution its a choice, and like abortion everyone is entitled to make up their own minds

They should be seen as nasty just like the clients that pay for their services.

It is a choice since it is easy money and I also agree with Bagucci considering the financial incentives might not be great if they applied other skills elsewhere. I hardly think someone would offer themselves just for the mere pleasure of the sex though but I think ol'skool sometimes

It's called the oldest profession in the world for a reason..

It's a profession in it's own right.. Some dabble into it intentionally and others just didn't have a choice..

In countries where it's legal to practise it and they are 'regulated' (for lack of a better word).. It hasn't got the negative connotations it has in other societies..

Does the fact they are on the streets make them any less than a stripper or lapdancer doing it for the exact same reasons as them?

It's amusing how easy it is to castigate & judge but as they say "Ashewo na workkkk ooohh!"
